I created this channel to share my love of RC Model Aircraft. I will also be sharing my love of aviation and ultralight aircraft from time to time. Another goal is to share and teach others how I have succeeded with model aviation. You will see many of my own designs as well as my giant-scale designs. Model aviation is a big part of my life, and I will share it here weekly or more.

So, an excellent pals daughter loves Caitlin Clark. She sent me a link to a 3D file and asked me if I could print it! Of course, I said yes. This is not my typical post on my aviation projects, but it is a short and fun build. Here is a link to the file I printed- www.patreon.com/waltersworld/shop/caitlin-clark-wbna-fever-jerseys-237757?

Designing and Creating 3D Pilots to be 3D printed for RC planes.

This is a project I started to see if I could make my own 3D pilots using DAZ Studios and Fusion 360. Remember, if you are going to use DAZ to create 3D-printed objects and make any money from them, you need to pay for the licenses; it's cheap and easy. I used my Prusa Mk4 to print my test pilots using generic PLA. www.patreon.com/DAGtheAviator

How many meters is wings width?
Don't know if this part of what you're about but I might as well put this out. I'm retired and kinda working on my bucket list one of the things I always wanted to do is fly RC partially a plane I built. As I looked around I found some foames made by Volantex and for me they have proven to just the ticket. What is working so well with me is they have this 6-axis gyro system a kind of auto pilot that when I switch it on straightens up the plane. How this works is I start at beginner level and get the feel of the plane and sticks, after I'm comfortable with this and most likely begin to develop some muscle memory I switch up to intermediate level were l have more control and can maneuver the plane in more radical maneuvers. In this mode I can learn by experience how to change my heading using just the rudder amongst other things. If I get into trouble I simply switch it back to beginner and the X- pilot ( Volantex name for there 6-axis gyros ) straightens the plane up and I try again. I am now too the point were I can fly it on expert mode ( no gyro assistance) for several minutes now before I have to go back to some help from the gyros. At the rate I'm learning it won't be long till I won't need the gyros. So here's my question is this technology the 6-axis gyro system available to be plugged into or part of a receiver that could be used in a plane I build?
Hello. There are systems that will do exactly what you are describing. I will find a link and post it here. Thanks!
I know very little about airplane design, I usually grab my foam board and cut, glue and sand untill what I'm seeing my head is eventually sitting in front of me. 80% of the time they fly pretty good and the more I watch these videos they do even better. It's been a fun journey.
Thanks!
I never plug the red wire from the esc to the receiver Watching that the esc ad a problem I will not ask what brand it’s
@@jean-claudeterretaz7464 just an FYI, the ESC did not have a onboard BEC. That is why I did not remove the red wire. It was the physical fire that melted the wires together. So even if the red wire was removed, the fire melted, the signal wire and the negative wire together, which would’ve also shorted out the receiver. Or at least the signal side of the receiver. I have done some testing and even with the red wire removed when you short, the signal wire and the negative wire together it knocks out my receiver. And I said multiple times in the video what brand it was.
@@dagtheaviator exactly you don’t Need the red wire only signal and ground I understand you have no BEC And the power for servo come with onboard battery I flew with 200 amp esc in my f5B glider and we alway remove the red wire
Next time you have dings in the balsa spray it with some water and put your hot iron on it. Like the blocks for the crutch. I need to get into 3d printing. Mike
My thought exactly, I learned this nice little trick over 50 years ago (dang that makes me sound so old).
@iamtuben2 yeah I use it all the time.
I don't think enough emphasis is put on the meditative aspect of building balsa airplanes. The more focused you can be, the better the result. New subscriber!
I don’t think I actually thought about the ratio when I set up my control rods to my control horns in consideration to how much more the servo could put into torque. This is awesome man I would never have even the slightest thought about it 😂
A great video
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.
That's a doll😂😂lol
I'm a 67 year old man that when I was 5 got one of those balsa gliders you talked about. Went on to build a number of balsa and tissue mode airplanes including a glider made by Thermic? It was called the trooper, had a ball flying it. I also learned how to build very complex models of my own design using nothing but paper. So now that I'm retired one of the challenges on my bucket list is to build a RC Spitfire using paper as the airframe and covering. One of the problems I was trying to solve was what size motor, so this is useful info thanks. In another non flying model had problems with motor overheating so I installed a water jacket around the motor. It worked very well, maybe copying what the 109, Spitfire, Mustang etc did could solve the overheating problem just like the full-sized aircraft did. Yes it would add weight but then it would allow the motor to pull that weight longer and harder.
Nice. You should try homesote for your building surface. Last many years and easily takes t pins. I'll have to try that glue. I use epoxy on my doublers. Mike c
I tried homasote 440. Wasn't a fan. Seemed to soft for my liking. :)
@@dagtheaviator yeah I've been using it forever.
Ok, this is cool.
Looking forward to it!
One of the best things with old kits is the hours of just staring at the plan and building it in your mind. Hours of fun and free of charge. 🙂
Spot on right. I am super excited to build this. :)
When you take the plywood out, what do you use instead? I am building a SIG LT-25 as an electric trainer. Looking forward to learning from your build.
Have you flown your Airbike?
Nope, I had shoulder surgery in Dec. Got to the point last year it was hard to work on the wings. Was put into storage. I am good to go now, just need the funds to cover and paint the wings. That's all that is really left.
@dagtheaviator My dad has an airbike under construction. He follows your UA-cam channel. He asked me to check on your status. Great build by the way.
Are the gear controller PCB still available? I have the code that b delapena sent me, but have no idea if the PCB's are available. Thanks
B made them for me. I am sure he still has the files to make more. Reach out to him and see if he can make you one. I don't have any extras. :)
Did you lay up the glass fuselage or purchase? If purchased may I get contact info even if its a website,Thank You
@@terryperrott9913 I did the fuselage myself. It was laid up on a plug I made.
@@dagtheaviator rite on
My instructor many years ago told me something that has stayed with me to this day. SHIT HAPPENS.
You're right, fly long enough and something will happen. :)
Impressive! That mechanical nose gear door actuation is art in motion.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing all the details. I've been doing SLA prints for 3d pilots and it's been a learning experience. Love to see how others do it.
Thanks, its taking me a long time, but I am starting to like the results.
Brother I'm a pipe welder/ fitter for a living and I've searched hight and low for prints like the one you got. Only problem, it's too blurry to make out. What's the chances of you sending me a copy of them
If you are talking the printed sheets of drawings, I have no way to copy them. They can be purchased here- www.jordanlakeaero.com/PlanSets.html. Thanks!
It is all great
Looking forward to AirBike videos.
Me, too. I can't wait tom get back to it. Just time, and funds are a bit low.
Smart. Thanks for the heads up 😊 I separated the landing gear from the flaps so I can adjust the landing for my F8F Bearcat. Was this the right thing to do?
I think so. I have never had gear and flaps mixed together. :)
I remember seeing that years ago on your b-36 build thread.
3d Printing Tip: you can use acetone to smooth out the 3d printing lines.
I have three videos on how I created an acetone vapor bath system to smooth both ASA and ABS. Thanks and rock on.
Just wish that I had the gear to be able to do things like that
13:59 Every ebike battery is being parallel charged when you charge it. The only difference is those batteries cells are paralleled by a bus and you are paralleling the cells with the balance leads. I would trust this method since its just charging at 1c so if the packs are not total 💩 they will not try to have high current in the balance leads since the packs are all balanced. Your last example of the 4s that sagged to 3.8v but had cell differential of only 0.01v tells me that pack is still good but as you stated just needs to be used where burst amps is slightly lower and continuous amps less than 50% of that.
Thanks!!
Looks awesome!!
Cool! In last weeks I was thinking about this. I’ll need to write the options down. Truth is the max torque of the servo is always the same as the force on the rudder if the deflection, size and speed is the same. So for maximising the force the horn on the servo should be short (high force on the wire) and long horn in the rudder to maximise torque on this one…. But if it’s a slow model or acrobatic more throws would be needed instead of torque/force on the rudders…..
In short, always balance charge, always check your settings, always be nearby, and make sure they dont get hot
It does look like a really good kit to have
It can't believe some of the things I find on Amazon. Very cool for the hobby.
Looks Good I want to build one for the back of my truck. Can I get a copy of the 3d files.
Thanks!!! The STLs will be on my Patreon by Monday. For $5 bucks, you can get all my designs, plans, and 3D engine STLs. Or you can give me your e-mail address, and I can share the files for free. My Patreon link and e-mail are on my UA-cam home page. :)

Eamonn is a legend!
Yes he is, and a really cool guy! :)
Hi Damon since I began to to drive RC cars a couple of years ago with my daughter I thought about this idea since I am a new pilot around 1 1/2 years and the last month or the last have been flying. I think about this regularly it would be cool to fly an EDF information to the car and see how it goes on For example 100 miles an hour maybe more it’s really amazing how fast the planes can go in comparison to the speed in our cars but as you say there are a lot of dangerous things about this idea so you had a lot of luck that nothing went wrong and everyone of us has done dump things when we were young so this was one of those and thank you for the story. I have enjoyed it and I enjoy your channel. Have a nice day Francisco. Excuse me I’m driving and this was with speech 🎤…
Thanks for the post. I think it would be so cool to do this at an abandoned airport. Fly my L39 next to a car going 100mph. Rock on!!
@@dagtheaviator flying inverted I suppose? xD The part with the aerodynamic turbulences behind the car was interesting!
Depending on application, some batteries have a very good gravimetric energy density and also a relatively high internal resistance. For low current applications that’s just fine and capacity/ flight time can be increased by as much as 80%! Problem is most RC airplanes are horribly inefficient and power hungry.
Spot ON!
My 8 year old started on a valiant tail dragger a few months ago the only plane out of 7 that we have that’s not a tail dragger is his habu ss he flies on 6s now..
Nice! Thanks for the post!
Neat design. I think I will try something similar for my car. Did you consider using rigid insulation instead of plywood? If it works, it makes it a lot easier to handle. Maybe use fibreglass top and bottom with rigid insulation if the insulation isn't strong enough by itself?
Thanks. I really didn't think about rigid insulation. I had this piece and didn't think of anything else. It's a cool idea, and glassing it would be very strong.
I wonder what ever became of the B-36 model? I watched that build for years and it went away…. It was my favorite. The big stick!
I sold the project when it was in primer. I had ran out of money and a guy made a great offer. In some ways I wish I had not sold it. But I still plane on make it again one day.
@@dagtheaviator do you know if the guy you sold it to ever finished it? It was a wonder that you had created. Just some of the questions that I ponder. is there at least one Roman legionary Eagle standard still in existence somewhere in some undiscovered shipwreck just waiting to be found. Where exactly is the last remnants of Alexander the greats tomb and did your labor of love (B-36) ever take to the sky?
@@nicholasgregory3973 The guy who bought it was building a aviation based bar. It was to hang on the ceiling. I lost contact with him during COVID. I have no idea where it is today. I bought just the airframe. :)
